Argyle ISD voters approved the $423,170,000 bond proposal that included both Propositions A & B in the Saturday, May 3, Bond Election.

Proposition A passed by 65.73% and 2,467 votes. This proposition includes Elementary #6, Middle School #2, Middle School #4 design, Elementary School #5 Construction Escalation, Land Acquisition & Offsite costs, Capital Improvements, Buses & Technology Infrastructure.

This proposition allows the district to provide classroom capacity to accommodate the district’s rapid enrollment growth. The district is expected to reach nearly 12,000 students in 2035. Argyle ISD currently has 6,200 students in Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade.

Proposition B passed by 56.79% and 2,125 votes and includes a baseball/softball complex at Argyle High School in Canyon Falls. This will allow AHS teams to practice and play at their home campus when the district transitions to two high schools in the 2027-2028 school year.

“What an incredible message of support our community sent today,” Argyle ISD Superintendent Dr. Courtney Carpenter said. “We are so grateful to the Argyle ISD families, staff, community, partners and businesses who responded in this election by going to the polls, making their voice heard in protecting and preserving the tradition of academic and extracurricular excellence of this wonderful district. This bond proposal paves the way for the continued success as a destination district for decades to come.”

“Amazing day and future for all of Argyle ISD,” School Board President Sam Slaton said. “Our community has spoken, and that voice has loudly said it supports the students of this district! Words cannot justly describe the gratitude we as a district have, for not only its supporters but the countless hours of dedication from those who poured into making this a successful bond. We are excited that, through the passage of these bond propositions, the district can continue to focus on upholding our standard of excellence in our rapid growth environment. This community has spoken loudly in its support for these bond propositions, for our students’ wellbeing, and for the vision of where we will continue to soar!”

The bond proposal was constructed by the community-led Bond & Growth Planning Committee. The 30-member committee, which included parents, staff and community, met during the fall and studied demographics, facilities and finances in constructing a revised bond proposal from 2024.

The bond proposal will maintain the current tax rate for voters. The Argyle ISD School Board will canvass the votes at the Monday, May 19 regular School Board meeting.

Early voting is underway, and voters in the City of Justin will head to the polls to decide on 10 proposed amendments to the city’s charter during a special municipal election.

The amendments, approved by the City Council, cover a range of governance and administrative reforms. They include proposals to extend councilmember terms from two to three years, reduce the total number of terms allowed, revise the process for filling vacant council seats, and establish new ethical guidelines through the creation of a Board of Ethics. Other propositions address city management policies, candidate qualifications, and conflict-of-interest procedures.

One notable change under Proposition C would alter how the city fills vacancies on the council by requiring the city secretary to first offer the position to the unelected candidate who received the most votes in the most recent election. Proposition J seeks to rewrite the city’s ethics section entirely, establishing a formal ethics board and a code of conduct for city officials and employees.

Early voting runs through April 29, with voting locations including the Denton County Elections Center and Justin City Hall. Election Day is Saturday, May 3.

Full details on each proposition and voting logistics can be found here. The election is being held in conjunction with the city’s general election for City Council seats.

For Justin City Council Place 1, Ryan Stevens is running unopposed to replace Alyssa Linenkugel.

For Justin City Council Place 2, Scott Kasper is running against incumbent Tomas Mendoza.

For Justin City Council Place 3, Steven Teschke is running unopposed to replace John Mounce.

All City Council members serve two-year terms.

The candidates will participate in a meet and greet starting at 6 p.m. and the moderated candidate forum will run from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Candidates will be asked questions that were received from a survey sent out by the Council of PTAs and other questions recommended by the Texas PTA. Attendees will not be able to ask any additional questions on the day of the event.

The board spots that are up for grabs are Districts 2, 3 and at-large Place 7.

Districts 2 and 3 will be run unopposed, but Council of PTAs president Carrie Baker said it was important for constituents to be able to hear from them, anyway.

The forum will be moderated by Calvin Dorsey, the president of Dorsey Management Services, who was recommended by the League of Women Voters.

“I’ve had a couple of meetings with Mr. Dorsey, showing him the questions we’re working on and finalizing the script,” said Baker. “So, we feel like we’re ready at this point.”

She said this forum is important, especially with the state of public education in Texas.

“Public schools are pretty much under attack right now and school boards are our first lines of defense,” she said. “So we’re looking forward to creating an opportunity for people to be educated about who is running so they can make the best choice.”

In December, Lewisville ISD announced it would be closing five elementary schools, one in each high school’s feeder pattern.

Highland Village Elementary is one of the schools being closed. The community is hosting an event on May 3 to honor the legacy of the school.

Click here for more about the candidates running for LISD Place 7 and here for information on other upcoming local elections.

Lewisville ISD serves all or portions of the following cities: Lewisville (including Castle Hills), Flower Mound, Carrollton (and Hebron), Highland Village, The Colony, Plano, Frisco, Coppell, Copper Canyon, Double Oak, Argyle and Grapevine.

Lewisville residents will head to the polls beginning Tuesday, April 22, to vote in the city’s general election and charter amendment election. Early voting runs through Tuesday, April 29, including weekend hours, ahead of Election Day on Saturday, May 3.

On the ballot are three City Council seats — Places 4, 5, and 6 — each for three-year terms. There is one contested council seat in Place 4. Candidates are Carlos E. Andino, Jr., Joshua Chanin and Lonnie E. Tipton. Incumbents Kristin Green (Place 5), and Patrick Kelly (Place 6) are running unopposed. Candidates must reside in their respective districts but are elected at-large by voters citywide. District maps are available on the city’s website.

In addition to the council races, voters will decide six proposed amendments to the city charter. The propositions, recommended by the Charter Review Committee earlier this year, address governance and operational changes for the City of Lewisville. Full text of the propositions can be found at cityoflewisville.com/2025charter.

Early voting for Denton County residents will take place at Frederick P. Herring Recreation Center, Thrive, Castle Hills North Community Center, or any designated site across the county. For Dallas County residents, early voting will be held at Coppell Town Center. Voting times vary by day, with extended hours offered toward the end of the early voting period.

Residents can find full voting schedules, polling locations, and sample ballots by visiting votedenton.gov for Denton County or dallascountyvotes.org for Dallas County.

Election Day voting will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on May 3.

What motivated you to run this position and why are you the best choice? Teachers have lasting impacts on the success students experience for years to come. As a wife, mother and educator with more than 13 years of experience, I have trained teachers, developed curriculum, implemented equitable literacy practices and championed teacher support and retention. I understand the challenges teachers face daily and know that when teachers have the resources, respect and trust they need, it is the students who reap the greatest rewards.

New policies are changing every day with teachers at the core of their implementation. My experience has awarded me the necessary skills to make informed, collaborative decisions that lead to data-driven solutions. If elected, I will work tirelessly to restore trust in educators, increase the safety and security of learning environments for all and strengthen partnerships to ensure every student has access to a strong community.

Do you have children enrolled in the school district you wish to represent? Yes, my husband and I have four children currently enrolled at the elementary, middle, and high school levels within the school district.

Mission statement: Every student and teacher deserves a safe and secure learning environment. If elected, I will work to strengthen partnerships between parents, teachers, administrators, and school safety teams to implement a data-driven approach to student discipline that is focused on growth, accountability and opportunity. The plan will have little to no impact on the budget and can be implemented immediately.
