Beginning Wednesday, July 9, AMC Movie Theatres across the country will be offering tickets at half price every Wednesday, according to a press release.

The price decrease is in an effort to “make movies more affordable and accessible for guests,” said the announcement.

“50% Off Wednesdays” will be available to all AMC Stubs members, which is free to join with an AMC Stubs Insider membership. Ticket fees and other premium charges for enhanced experiences like IMAX will still apply, but the base ticket price will be 50% off.

“At AMC, we’ve gone to great lengths to create the preeminent moviegoing environment at our AMC theatres including our offering more comfortable seating, more premium formats and better food and beverage offerings,” said AMC Chairman and CEO Adam Aron. “Now, we also are pleased to make moviegoing more affordable.”

The cinema industry has faced challenges in the recent years with the COVID-19 pandemic and the rise in streaming services, but AMC’s move indicates there has been a recent uptick in business.

“Realistically, we could not afford to have made this change to our ticket pricing strategy until the box office showed true signs of sustained recovery,” said Aron. “But in April and now in May, the box office has been booming and the remainder of 2025 appears poised to continue that upward box office trend.”

Anyone who is not currently an AMC Stubs Insider member can sign up for free through the app, on the AMC website or at their local theatre.

The closest AMC Theatre to southern Denton County is AMC Highland Village 12, located in The Shops at Highland Village.

Several years ago, AMC Theatres introduced Discount Ticket Tuesdays, which it will continue alongside the Wednesday deal.

“The introduction of Discount Tuesdays several years ago has turned Tuesday into one of the best attended days of the week, in part because there is a segment of the moviegoing audience who looks first for a great value in their moviegoing,” said Aron. “With the introduction of 50% off Wednesdays, we’re looking to turn Wednesday into a similar strong-attendance day for moviegoers at our theatres.”

Circle R Ranch, a 42-acre Flower Mound event venue with over five decades of history, has been listed for sale.

Hillary and Jason Roberts

Owners Jason and Hillary Roberts, who have owned the ranch’s operating company since 2013 and acquired full ownership in 2017, are seeking a buyer committed to preserving its legacy.

“When the interest rates jumped, our small business loan went from 5% to now almost 11. That’s not sustainable long-term,” Jason Roberts explained. “But we’re just basically looking to see what’s out there. If there’s somebody that would be interested in continuing to run this property as it is, we’re looking to make a deal.”

Established in 1973 by Alan Powdermaker, Circle R Ranch has been a staple for corporate and charity events, school functions, and community gatherings, hosting over 100,000 guests annually.

With nearby ranches along FM 1171 filling up with million-dollar homes, local residents expressed concern that Circle R will be the next property lost to suburban sprawl.

“Absolutely not,” Roberts said regarding potential residential development. “Because whoever buys it would have to go to the town and get a zoning change and everything. That’s not who we’re looking to sell to.

“We’re exploring all kinds of different options to be able to continue to keep the ranch in place for years to come, whether that be us running it or somebody else. We actually had two of our best years back-to-back sales-wise.”

A popular local restaurant is gearing up for a flavorful new chapter.

Delhi6 Indian Kitchen, known for its authentic Indian cuisine, announced Monday it will relocate to a larger location at 2420 Justin Road—formerly home to The Lost Colony—by late this summer or early fall.

The expansion comes after five years of serving the community at its original site in The Shops at Highland Village, with the owners citing growing demand and limited space as key reasons for the move.

The new space will feature larger seating capacity, private event areas for parties and meetings, and a “warm, elegant design that blends cultural heritage with modern flair.” For the first time, Delhi6 will also begin accepting reservations.

“We’ve been honored to be part of your family dinners, birthday celebrations, and joyful reunions,” the restaurant said in a statement. “Now it’s time to evolve—and grow with you.”

The move to acquire the former Mexican restaurant was prompted by financial challenges of the previous occupant and building owner.

“While the former tenant and landlord at this (new) location had their own financial challenges, this situation opened a door — quite literally — for us to bring the Delhi6 experience to a space that matches your energy, love, and enthusiasm. It’s a bittersweet transition, but one filled with hope, purpose, and promise.”

May, spring and scammer season is here!

According to the Federal Trade Commission, Americans reported losing a staggering $12.5 billion to fraud in 2024—a 25% increase from the previous year. Despite the number of fraud reports remaining steady at 2.6 million, the percentage of victims who lost money rose from 27% in 2023 to 38% in 2024.

Text Message Scams: Consumers reported $470 million in losses due to scams initiated via text messages, more than five times the amount reported in 2020.

Have you received a text from NTTA about you owing monies on your toll tag?  I have received (and deleted) many.

If someone is saying you owe money, do not click on whatever they send you. Go to a different browser on your computer or phone and login to your account as you normally do. Verify to see if you really do have any balance due.

With open enrollment for Medicare behind us you may still get requests for quotes or claims that you need additional coverages. Always consult a professional you’ve dealt with before and trust to verify any information requests sent to you.

Email scams are still prevalent. Before clicking on ANYTHING look carefully at the email address that sent it. Watch for what comes after the @. Example: joesmith@xpy42.com versus joesmith@bankofhere.com. If the email address looks funny or the grammar and/or spelling are off it’s probably a scam.

Calls from the IRS, your credit card company or anyone else asking you to give them your Social Security number is a scam. None of these agencies or companies will ask you for that information, they already have it. If someone persists or is aggressive on the phone, hang up! That’s your best defense.

Always be vigilant. Monitor your bank accounts and credit cards online or review your statements received in the mail. Keep the phone numbers for your bank and credit card companies readily available.

If you suspect you’ve been targeted by a scam, report it to the FTC at IdentityTheft.gov or call 1-877-438-4338.

For some, it’s an emergency need to pay bills; for others it’s just nice to have the cash to put in their bank accounts.

As the price of gold hits new heights, an opportunity has emerged for anyone who stashed away Aunt Betty’s estate jewelry, or has their own unworn gold pieces (wedding ring from two marriages ago? broken gold necklace? 1910 family heirloom?).

“It’s piquing the interest of so many of our neighbors — regular people, not necessarily investors — who would like to cash in their gold items for a good price,” said Lynn Seeden, CEO of the Argyle Business Association and owner of Seeden Photography.

This is why Seeden asked master jeweler David Truong, who is a member of the Argyle Business Association, to host a local gold and jewelry cash-in event in Argyle next week.

“I know, for instance, many local senior citizens who have accumulated years of small jewelry pieces, or maybe even Krugerrands and coins, and could sure use this time to cash that in and put money back in their bank accounts,” Seeden said.

Another usual market audience are adults whose loved ones have passed along their estates of jewelry, Seeden said.

“It is often just regular people who remember they still have those couple of old gold rings or broken gold earring and would like to cash those in to pay a bill.”

The Argyle Jewelry and Gold Buying Event will be held at the Argyle Business Association office, 306 US-HWY 377 North, Suite J, Argyle, TX 76226.  The office is off the same parking lot as PointBank Argyle.

Dates: Wednesday through Saturday, May 21-24. The event hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Appointments are available every 30 minutes.  Walk-ins are also welcome, but you may have to sit and have a cup of coffee while waiting for the next opening.

How the event works: Jeweler David Truong of Mimi’s Jewelry will go over each piece you bring in, give you a professional assessment — including whether your piece is real or faux — and if there is value, he will make you an offer. If you choose to accept the offer, he will write you a check right there in exchange for the item. All payments will be by check; no cash will be exchanged.

Troung will not be selling any jewelry at the event; only purchasing from the attendees. The event is sponsored by the Argyle Business Association, and will also serve as a fundraiser for student business scholarships and local seniors meals.

For walk-ins, arrive during event hours (but don’t arrive too late in the day).

To book an appointment, click below, or go to www.ArgyleBiz.com or call (714) 932-1958.

When the topic of chronic pain comes up in conversation, it’s a safe bet most people in the room automatically think of issues involving the lower back. After all, everyone has dealt with back pain—from mild muscle sprains and strains to lingering injuries, sciatica, and more. Everyone can relate. For those whose lives have been consumed by chronic lower back pain, your friends at Advanced Pain Institute of Texas promise there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

When physical therapy, medicine and even surgery don’t offer the relief you’re looking for, Advanced Pain of Texas always seems to have a few extra solutions in its pain management toolbox.

“We are trying,” Dr. John Broadnax said. “Even those chronic pain issues that we haven’t quite found a solution for yet, we’re working hard to get them all covered. There is hope—you should never stop looking for solutions.”

One highly effective solution Dr. Broadnax and Dr. Eric Anderson want to share with the masses is a lower back pain treatment that addresses chronic pain on the front side of the spine (also known as anterior column pain). For most people, the pain they experience in their back comes from the back side of the spine (posterior). But every so often, a complex case will arise where a patient exhibits pain from the front side. In these situations, they may struggle to stand up straight or even bend forward because of pain from the vertebrae itself or the discs between them.

An increasing number of treatment options are available to address anterior column pain. One is to inject a steroid directly into the disc itself. If that results in symptom relief, great. But if not, another option is a procedure called basivertebral nerve ablation. With this procedure, Dr. Broadnax or Dr. Anderson directly treat the painful nerves, thus creating longer-lasting pain relief.

“This procedure has proven very successful, and there’s a lot of data to back it up,” Dr. Anderson said. “These patients have tried everything, and they are at their wit’s end. The best part is that it’s an outpatient procedure with minimal downtime afterward.”

Dr. Broadnax agreed, adding that, “Everyone deals with back pain. We want to help.”

To learn more about how the Advanced Pain Institute of Texas can help you, visit apitexas.com or call 972-866-4246. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Do you want to take a walk on the wild side? Just add your adult child as a co-owner to your bank account.

Suppose you live in Texas and you have an adult child: Jim.

Jim has been helping you pay your bills. You want him to have direct access to your bank account to make it easier for him to do that.

You and Jim think that adding him as a co-owner to your bank account is the perfect solution. You do that, with the banker helpfully setting up the account as a “joint tenant with right of survivorship account.” (Bankers are so helpful when they give legal advice, aren’t they?)

 Let’s look at the result.

Because it is set up as a “survivorship account,” you just made a present gift to Jim. That may be fine if there was only $10,000 in the account, but if there was instead $50,000, then you probably need to check with your CPA about filing a gift tax return.

Suppose you accidentally overdraft the joint account. Who is on the hook for the overdraft?  You and Jim.

It is a two-way street. What happens if Jim forgets to pay his taxes, and the IRS places a lien on his accounts? The lien will include your joint account, of course.

Now suppose Jim gets a divorce. He will have to disclose that he is an owner in the joint account. Could the funds in the account be in jeopardy? Yes.

You may be able to successfully fend off the IRS and Jim’s horrid spouse, but it will cost you money and time.

What is a good alternative to adding Jim as an account owner? You could add him as an account signatory so he can access your account during your lifetime to help pay your bills. Or you could name him as your agent under a power of attorney, which would give him access to manage your account. If you want Jim to inherit the account when you die, then just name him a beneficiary.

You have choices, and not all of them are wild.

Brandi Bosserman had a real problem on her hands. Granted, it was a good problem to have—but a problem nonetheless, as an impromptu line of eager customers stretched from her kitchen counter all the way out the door of her home one Friday afternoon.

For weeks, Bosserman had practically begged people to buy her flowers at a farmers market a few miles up the road. She’d set up a table each weekend without fail, artfully arrange her homegrown blooms, put a welcoming smile on her face, and wait.

And wait.

Sales were so slow that she often gave away her pretty bouquets to businesses on her way home—just so they wouldn’t go to waste.

But on that one Friday afternoon four years ago, she couldn’t sell them fast enough.

“I called my girlfriends and said, ‘You’ve got to come help. I’ve got people coming; it’s insane over here,'” Bosserman said with a laugh.

Frustrated at the lack of sales from the farmers market, she’d posted on Facebook that she had leftover fresh market bouquets for anyone interested in buying them. That one post set off a frenzy among local flower lovers.

“I ran back out to the field and cut more because there were so many people.” said Bosserman. “I still have some of those first customers that came that day.”

As wild an afternoon as that was, it was exactly the spark she needed. Entering her fourth growing season, Bosserman hasn’t slowed down since. In fact, her business—Bosserhouse Blooms in Argyle—is busy year-round and has become the go-to local provider of distinctive and stunning farm-to-table flower arrangements that make any special moment or occasion unforgettable.

In Bosserman’s words, she grows happiness. Every bloom is planted, nurtured, harvested and designed by Bosserman herself on her family’s small flower farm off Old Justin Road—often just hours before they end up in the outstretched hands of customers who appreciate the care, creativity and beauty in every bouquet. Even the flower farm itself is Bosserman’s creation. When she and her husband, Paul, moved from Aubrey to Argyle in 2021, there was an unused quarter of an acre section of grass next to their home. Within months—and hundreds of hours of watching DIY YouTube videos—Brandi transformed it into her own floral paradise.

In December, they added a 2,200 square-foot greenhouse.

“My passion is local flowers because they last longer, often as long as 10 to 12 days. And during the high season, our entire front room will be full of buckets and flowers. It’s funny because I can quickly take over the kitchen, the dining room and the yard. I also have an office and a studio room—everything is full of beautiful flowers,” Bosserman said. “I didn’t want to take the easy path and just open a flower shop. There was something special about growing them. I’m a flower farmer first, then a florist.”

But it doesn’t stop there. Bosserhouse Blooms is the perfect floral arrangement partner for your next wedding, party, shower or holiday. Bosserman also routinely offers workshops for flower-growing enthusiasts. And for those who crave a constant supply of fresh market bouquets, Bosserhouse Blooms has six-week subscription services.

Clients can set it up for weekly or bi-weekly deliveries, which are made every Tuesday and Wednesday. Pickups are on Fridays.

“I genuinely love what I do,” Bosserman said. “I’m even trying something new this year called Petals on the Porch, where I’ll put any extra stems we have available out on my porch for people to scan, pay and take whatever they want.”

Being surrounded by beautiful flower arrangements is nothing new for Bosserman. She and Paul have been together since they were 17. They grew up in the Pacific Northwest and he has religiously bought her flowers every week for the past 37 years. Her father also always made sure his daughter had flowers—right up until the day before he passed away from cancer in 2020.

Ironically, the thought of being a flower grower and florist one day didn’t cross her mind for many years. Bosserman spent 13 years in education, including a lengthy stint as a middle school history teacher for Lewisville ISD.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, which also coincided with her dad’s cancer treatments, she realized it was time for a change.

“I didn’t have a plan, but I found myself watching YouTube videos about being a flower grower. I realized, ‘Hey, I can do this,'” she said with a laugh. “I taught for one more year after that, and in the meantime, I was learning all I could about flowers.”

In flower growing, there is a very detailed science behind every decision that’s made. Bosserman soaked it all in like a sponge and isn’t afraid to try new things each season. Listening to her talk about her thriving business and her deeply personal connections with her customers, it’s clear that Bosserman’s new life is about so much more than just flowers. It’s about comfort, joy, memory, meaning and being surrounded by beautiful flowers.

“We cover every event in life, from joyous to sad moments,” she said. “There is a personal touch with everything I do and I genuinely love sharing those moments with my customers.”

“It’s an honor to be part of their lives.”

Hillwood Communities received its fourth consecutive Dallas-Fort Worth Developer of the Year Award among eight total awards at the 2025 McSAM Awards in Dallas on April 26.

The Dallas Builders Association established the McSAM Awards in 1979 to recognize builders, developers and associates who demonstrate creativity and excellence in the North Texas residential real estate industry.

“Being named Developer of the Year for the fourth year in a row is a tremendous honor and a reflection of the passion and dedication our entire team brings to every community we develop,” said Fred Balda, president of Hillwood Communities. “These awards certify our commitment to thoughtful planning, innovative design and lifestyle-driven development that enhances the lives of our residents.”

Hillwood Communities’ Harvest, Treeline and newly-announced Landmark in Denton were all highlighted by the McSAM Awards.

Treeline earned the award for Best Use of Technology because of its use of augmented reality to preview future amenities.

Landmark earned the award for Best on Boards for its excellence in planning and vision. Treeline won this award in 2024.

Harvest won awards for Lifestyle Program, Lifestyle Director of the Year and earned special recognition for the Harvest Farmhouse amenity.

Some individuals were also awarded at the McSAM Awards.

Kyle Joyce won Developer Professional of the Year, Molly McLendon won Rising Star of the Year and Page Austin won Lifestyle Director of the Year.

“It’s incredibly rewarding to see our planning efforts recognized, especially for a community as visionary as Landmark,” said Diana Carroll, Dallas-Fort Worth marketing director for Hillwood Communities. “It’s a celebration of the collaboration and creativity that goes into every detail. We extend our gratitude to the Dallas Builders Association for its continued leadership in supporting developers and homebuilders.”
